light11 presents: Ameluna, the exciting outcome of a collaboration between Artemide and Mercedes Benz – two brands which stand for exclusive and iconic designs and enjoy great popularity worldwide. The Artemide Ameluna is far more than just a pendant light. It is a fascinating light object with a stunning aura. Inspired by exotic luminescent creatures living in the deep sea, Artemide and Mercedes Benz designed an asymmetrical, streamlined dome with a circular outline, which is only held by hair-thin cords. Thereby, the Ameluna seems to float in the room and gains a futuristic and mysterious appearance, which is emphasised by the lack of a central light source. Instead, there are 288 LEDs hidden in a satin-finished ring of aluminium, which runs along the bottom edge of the lamp body made of transparent injection-moulded methacrylate. Not least thanks to this patented innovation, the Artemide Ameluna was honoured with the iF Design Award 2017.

Ameluna – enchanting lighting effect

The entrancing presence of the Artemide Ameluna is accompanied by an excellent lighting effect, which turns this pendant light into a total work of art. As soon as you switch the pendant light on, it unfolds its unprecedented light show. The 288 LEDs embedded into a circle of aluminium emit their light downwards and thereby provide an accentuating lighting. At the same time, the light emitted softly spreads in all directions. In this way, the Ameluna does not only provide a room with a smooth base lighting but also illuminates itself in a fascinating way. This glowing effect gently fades out towards the top of the dome-shaped body, which results in an interesting gradient of brightness. This innovative, patent-pending “circle of light” is the result of researches conducted by Artemide in the field of optoelectronics. Furthermore, by means of a dimmer, the brightness may be additionally adjusted.

The RGB version of the Artemide Ameluna creates a colourful lighting atmosphere, which is inspired by the new “Masters of Intelligence” E-Class by Mercedes Benz. Just like the sun shines on the moon, in this version, a spotlight illuminates the top of the pendant light, which results in mesmerising light refractions and reflections in addition to different colour variations. This comparison also reveals the idea behind the name of the pendant light: Artemide, MErcedes Benz and LUNA, Italian for “moon”. In addition, similar to the lighting concept of the new Mercedes Benz E-Class, the light colour can be controlled by an app on your smartphone or tablet.

By means of its fascinating appearance and enchanting lighting effect, the Artemide Ameluna enriches every room in a unique manner.
