DesignAwarded with the Compasso d’Oro among other awards, the small Eclisse table lamp by Artemide can be found in many museums all around the world. The elegant design classic from 1967 stands out for a simple, yet clever design. The illuminant is shielded by two hemispheres, of which the outer one is fixed, while the smaller inner hemisphere may be rotated around the illuminant. In this way, you may not only change the light direction but also dim the light. The body of the Artemide Eclisse, member of the "Modern Classic" family, is made of metal painted in white or orange. The design was conceived by Ludovico, or short "Vico", Magistretti, who is considered a grand seigneur among the Italian designers. The motto of the Milanese, who died in 2006, was: a luminaire should combine innovative technology, functionality, expediency and a certain courage to make a resolute statement. It should be well-designed, but by no means elitist. For his creations, Magistretti was honoured with many awards, such as the Compasso d'Oro. Some of his works can be admired in the world’s most renowned design museums, such as the MoMA in New York. As an aside, the versatile retro classic can also be mounted to the wall.
