Design

By means of the Mercury Soffitto LED, the designer Ross Lovegrove created a more than extraordinary ceiling light for the Italian light manufacturer Artemide. Here, a breathtaking design meets a fascinating lighting effect. The visual particularity of the Mercury ceiling light are the ten differently sized reflectors shaped like drops or pebble stones which are made of die-cut, chrome-polished aluminium. These are connected to the luminaire body by means of nylon threads that are different in length. These chrome-plated elements make the reflectors look like floating drops of liquid mercury. The large round luminaire body of the Artemide Mercury Soffitto LED is made of die-cast aluminium.

Mercury Soffitto LED – manifold reflections

Two of the drops are equipped with a 29 W LED each. The light emitted is reflected multiple times by the surrounding reflectors and the large luminaire body thereby producing a breathtaking lighting effect. Even while it is switched off, the Artemide Mercury creates a special lighting effect by reflecting the natural light as well as the influences of the surrounding area. The integrated LEDs create a luminous flux of 4,660 lumens. For comparison: this value almost corresponds to the intensity achieved by a conventional 300 W incandescent lamp.

Mercury Soffitto LED: ceiling lights for pleasant ambient lighting

Its exceptional design language makes the Artemide Mercury Soffitto LED a design object that is beneficial for the entire interior design. This ceiling light is often used in a living room which it suffuses with its pleasant ambient light including charming light reflections. The smooth ambient lighting as well as the expressive design of this ceiling lamp are also an enrichment for the bedroom. If the Artemide Mercury LED is installed in the dining room it takes over the function of a unique eye-catcher that treats the room with a welcoming ambient lighting.
