DesignThe Catellani & Smith Luna Tavolo conjures up the power of ancient myths and symbols: exquisite, elegant and really efficient. It is an homage to the circle – a unique table lamp which takes up ancient traditions and, at the same time, does not try to hide its modern origin: an unusual look that makes a lasting impression on the viewer. With the Catellani & Smith Luna Tavolo, Enzo Catellani leaves the field of geometric abstraction that often dominates his works and allows some room for symbolic interpretation. The golden sun disc, a symbol for life-giving power and the annual return of life, has captured the imagination of mankind since thousands of years. The Luna table lamp consists of three elements: an 11 x 11 centimetre large waxed iron plate serves as a platform for the tea light, a square whose geometric precision forms a contrast to the golden warmth of the reflector which is plated with either gold, silver or copper leaf, and even then serves as an impressive eye-catcher when it is not illuminated by the warm light of an open flame. A touch of hearth fire of ancient times is exuded by the classically looking light object and it adds a warm mythical glory even to a contemporary environment.
