The term "extraordinary" probably best describes the Bibliotheque Nationale. The floor lamp from Flos is a creation by the star designer Philippe Starck and impressively combines the properties of a reading light with the practical storage space a shelf offers. He describes the Flos Bibliotheque Nationale in his own words as follows: "A magic bookcase where the books take flight towards the light." The icing on the cake of this floor lamp is the cone-shaped shade where a second satin-finished shade is hidden on the inside. This shade becomes visible as soon as the light is switched on. Below the shade, three storage areas are located, which can be used for placing books, decoration items, glasses or cups. A USB port on the lamp base can be used for charging the iPad or the smartphone.

Bibliotheque Nationale floor lamp: illumination as required

The light emission of the Flos Bibliotheque Nationale depends on the type of the shade. The fabric and aluminium shade versions direct the light upwards and downwards in a focused manner. This means that the floor lamp from Flos is ideally suited to supply reading light. The transparent shade, however, lets the light pass through unhindered and diffusely escape in all directions. This way, the floor lamp provides for pleasant ambient lighting. Independent of which version you choose, light11 recommends equipping the Bibliotheque Nationale with a 150&nsbp;W halogen lamp. Then, books and other objects on the storage areas are suffused with brilliant light and it is easier to see the contours.
