Design

The characteristic feature of the Flos Tatou S2 is its charming polycarbonate shade provided with a honeycombed hole pattern. When creating this tasteful pendant light, the Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola was inspired by the look of Japanese Samurai armour. However, the protective armour of an armadillo also played an important role during the creation of the Tatou S2, which is why this luminaire was given this telling name. "Tatou" is the French term for armadillo. Below the first shade of the pendant light by the Italian light manufacturer Flos a further opal shade is located that diffuses the light emitted and ensures the glare control.

The Flos Tatou S2 primarily emits its light downwards in a focused manner. Moreover, a fascinating light also escapes to all sides through the openings on the shade, creating an enticing play of light and shadow. Consequently, the light emitted by the Tatou S2 is filtered twice and is therefore excellently glare free. light11 recommends using a halogen lamp with a power of up to 205 watts for this pendant light by Flos. These lamps are known for a brilliant colour rendering and extraordinarily pleasant light.
