An original and simultaneously elegant design language in combination with clear, rich colours – the FL/Y from Kartell is a designer light that attracts attention. Moreover, the hemispherical reflector of the Kartell FL/Y made of coloured methacrylate creates the impression of a bubble that shimmers in the sunlight. The characteristic shape of this pendant light is based on the extraordinary cut area that is located slightly below the centre. Ferruccio Laviani designed this pendant lamp exclusively for Kartell. Laviani’s works are characterised by a combination of a decorative look and the distinctive materiality of plastic. The lampshade is coated with a thin, transparent protective film that can be easily removed from the lampshade before using the light fixture. This film might create the impression that the surface of the Kartell FL/Y is scratched. But no worries: these are generally scratches to be found on the film and not on the lampshade itself.

FL/Y pendant lights: either exuberant or unobtrusive

Thanks to the open area on the bottom side of the reflector of the Kartell FL/Y, the light provided by globe-type lamp included in the scope of supply is unfiltered and white. The rest of the light is emitted through the lampshade and therefore coloured light is shed into the room and onto the ceiling. Thus, this pendant lamp from the Italian design company Kartell produces an attractive interplay between white and coloured light. The light ranges between unobtrusive blue and green tones to cheerful, yellow and orange tones. Those who prefer neutral light may opt for the versions with an opaque black or white diffuser; here, no coloured light is emitted.
