Louis Poulsen PH 4½-3½ Glas Standerlampe

Poul Henningsen designed the PH 4½-3½ glass floor lamp as part of a series comprising 19 light fixtures that feature triple lampshades. In contrast to other luminaires of this collection, this floor lamp by the Danish light manufacturer Louis Poulsen stands out for its shades made from glass. These are hand-blown from triple-layered glass in an elaborate process. The outside surfaces of the lampshades present themselves in a glossy finish while the inside surfaces are sand-blasted. The individual shade elements of the Louis Poulsen PH 4½-3½ glass floor lamp are arranged following the principle of a logarithmic spiral, with the illuminant being the centre point. As with all PH lights, the name of the PH 4½-3½ glass describes the size of the lampshades. The top shade element is 45 cm in diameter, the subjacent shade is based on the PH 3/2.
