The Tecnolumen Trabant 1 pendant light is made of specially developed pigmented concrete. Its body is cast and compacted entirely by hand. The designer Joachim Manz intentionally avoided mechanical compacting, as only the manufacturing by hand delivers truly unique objects. As a result, the Trabant 1 appears particularly natural and authentic. By dint of random air pockets and grooves in the otherwise perfectly round body, the pendant light is reminiscent of our moon – hence the name "Trabant", which is the German astronomical term for a moon or other natural satellite of a celestial body.
The bottom section of the concrete body is replaced by a lens. You can choose between a clear and a matt lens. The latter softly diffuses the light, while the first focuses the light into a beam. This light beam can be directed in nearly any direction, as the Trabant 1 pendant light can be rotated and tilted by means of the narrow slit at the upper half of the lamp body. Thanks to this, the designer light by Tecnolumen puts a dining table in the kitchen or the dining room into the limelight, or puts a selected piece of furniture in the living room into the centre of attention with its focused light. This extraordinary design was honoured with the German Design Award and the iF Design Award.
